Lambda Center Houston

Third Group Formed

In May 1976, as space became too limited for the growing meetings, the Lambda groups moved again: this time to classrooms at the First Unitarian Church on Fannin Street. The rent was $15 per month for each group.

In November 1976, a third group was formed. They called themselves the Closet Group and they met on Thursdays nights. Now there were gay alcoholic recovery groups meeting three nights per week.

The meetings were small at first with attendance ranging from eight to 20 people. However, interest was growing and new people kept coming in. In September 1977 the three Lambda groups hosted a hospitality suite at an international recovery conference for young people. This was successful in building a general awareness of gays in the alcoholic recovery community at large.
